به‌کارگیری سیستم اجتماعی- طبیعی و شناخت زیرسیستم‌های اصلی در تحلیل استقرارهای آشور نو کمتر موردتوجه بوده است، در این پژوهش تأثیر متغیرهای جغرافیایی به‌عنوان زیرسیستم اصلی در چارچوب سیستم اجتماعی- طبیعی در پراکنش استقرارهای آشور نو مسئله اصلی این پژوهش است؛ در این راستا سیستم اجتماعی در قالب عوامل اقتصادی شامل سیستم کشاورزی، مهاجرتی و عوامل طبیعی شامل در دسترس بودن منابع و متغیرهای جغرافیایی از دو منبع اصلی بررسی‌های باستان‌شناسی انجام‌شده از دهه 2000 م. به بعد و اسناد مکتوب مشتق می‌شود تا با ترکیب و تحلیل این یافته‌ها در سیستم اطلاعات جغرافیایی (GIS) به‌صورت کارگاهی به این سؤالات پاسخ دهند که الگوی اصلی استقرار و پراکندگی محوطه‌های باستانی در حوضه آبریز زاب بزرگ و کوچک چگونه است؟ سیستم اجتماعی- طبیعی به چه شکلی در پراکنش استقرارها نقش داشته است؟ نتایج نشان میدهد که الگوی اصلی استقرارها با توجه به منابع طبیعی در دسترس، احتمالاً به‌صورت خطی و پراکندگی محوطه‌ها به‌صورت ترکیبی است و سیاست‌های کشاورزی و مهاجرتی با توجه به عوامل جغرافیایی می‌تواند تأثیر مستقیمی در افزایش و تراکم استقرارهای آشور نو در حوضه آبریز زاب بزرگ و کوچک داشته باشد.
