با توجه به اینکه، اکثر روش های قارچ  زدایی که برای پیشگیری یا توقف زوال بیولوژیکی کاغذهای تاریخی استفاده  شده اند، ابتدا در دیگر زمینه های علمی و صنعتی همانند حفاظت مواد، کشاورزی و پزشکی مورد استفاده قرار گرفته اند، به همین دلیل قارچ کش های تیوفانات متیل و کاربندازیم که از پرکاربردترین و مهم ترین مواد مورد استفاده در کشاورزی هستند، جهت کاربرد در حفاظت و مرمت آثار کاغذی مورد ارزیابی قرار گرفتند. طیف سنجی مادون قرمز تبدیل فوریه (FTIR) یکی از روش های مهم در شناخت تغییرات احتمالی ایجادشده در ساختار کاغذ است. جهت ارزیابی ابتدا نمونه های آزمایشگاهی با استفاده از کاغذ فیلتر تهیه شدند. نمونه ها با محلول های تیوفانات متیل (محلول در متانول) و کاربندازیم (محلول در آب مقطر) در غلظت های ppm100 و ppm200 به روش اسپری تیمار شدند. سپس طبق استاندارد 4706 ISIRI به مدت 288 ساعت پیرسازی شدند. پس از پیرسازی، تغییرات ساختاری با استفاده از طیف سنجی مادون قرمز تبدیل فوریه مورد ارزیابی قرار گرفت. نتایج نشان داد که در طیف های حاصل شده از کاغذ های حاوی تیوفانات متیل و کاربندازیم، کاغذها پس از تیمار، در هر دو غلظت ppm 100 و ppm200 دچار تغییری در ساختار خود نشدند. پس از تیمار به وضوح مشخص گردید که هر دو مواد بر ساختار کاغذ اضافه شده اند ولیکن بر طبق طیف های حاصل، موردی مبنی بر تخریب ساختار نمونه مشاهده نگردید. بر اساس طیف کاغذ پیرسازی شده، پیرسازی تسریعی منجر به ایجاد جذب کربونیل در حدود cm-11742 گشت که این امر نشانگر ایجاد تخریب در ساختار سلولز و حضور محصولات تخریب جدید بود که منجر به ایجاد تغییرات بصری در کاغذ می شود. کاغذهای تیمار شده پس از پیرسازی در مقایسه با کاغذهای تیمارشده بدون پیرسازی، تغییرات شدیدی مبنی بر تخریب ساختاری کاغذ ایجاد نکرده اند زیرا تغییری که نشانگر شکست پیوند های سلولز باشد، رخ نداده و غلظت های ppm100 و ppm200، هر دو پس از پیرسازی بدون تخریب بودند. به طورکلی بر اساس نتایج طیف های مادون قرمز، هردو ماده موردمطالعه ساختار کاغذ را تحت تأثیر قرار نمی دهد.
